Heart of Darkness

I remember first reading this book 25 years ago, it seemed so unapproachable because of Conrad's style and use of language, yet then in college, I read it more often, began to admire its mastery and even wrote an admirable essay on the enigma. Now, returning to it twenty years later, its still such a very powerful read, probably one of the greatest tales ever written in English. This story is about several things in one story, but you can also say it means something else entirely, yet always present in the story, is the ugliness of 19th Century English Imperialism and its trade monopoly. Kurtz even laments on it,"The Horror, The Horror."
