Michael McCrary is a health science writer and nutrition researcher based in Portland, Oregon. His work focuses on translating complex microbiome science into practical, evidence-based guidance for everyday health. He has written for *Nutrition Reviews*, *The Gut Health Journal*, and *Science & Medicine Today*, and his articles on digestive health have reached over two million readers online.
After completing his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Washington, Michael spent four years as a research assistant at the Oregon Health & Science University Microbiome Research Center, where he contributed to studies on diet-microbiome interactions in metabolic syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. His research has been cited in over fifty peer-reviewed publications.
Michael is a certified Nutrition Science Coach through the American Nutrition Association and serves on the advisory board of the Pacific Northwest Digestive Health Initiative. He is a regular speaker at nutrition conferences and has delivered workshops for healthcare providers on integrating microbiome science into clinical practice.
*Gut Deep* is his first book, born from years of fielding the same question from friends, family, and readers: "What should I actually eat for my gut?" He lives in Portland with his partner and their two dogs, and he maintains a small urban garden where he experiments with fermented vegetables and keeps a sourdough starter named Barnaby.
