About this ebook

The Screen-Time Solution is a detailed, practical guide to Screen Time Management for Digital Age Parents for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include The Diagnosis: Is Your Family Hooked?, What the Science Really Says, Your Parenting Tech Style, Myths That Keep You Stuck, Building Your Family Media Plan, Tech-Free Zones That Work, The Boredom Advantage, Navigating Social Media and Tweens, Games vs. Learning: Choosing Quality Content, Reclaiming Bedtime from Blue Light, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

**Andrea Cowan** is a family wellness educator, writer, and speaker who has spent over fifteen years helping parents navigate the intersection of technology, child development, and family connection. Her work has been featured in *Parenting Today*, *The Family Tech Journal*, and on the *Raising Digital Natives* podcast, where she is a recurring guest. She holds a master's degree in developmental psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and has completed additional training in media psychology and digital wellness at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies.

Andrea's approach is grounded in both research and real-world practice. As a mother of three children spanning elementary school through high school, she has tested every strategy she recommends in her own home — and has the messy, imperfect, hopeful stories to prove it. She believes that effective parenting in the digital age does not require parents to become technology experts but does require them to stay curious, stay connected, and stay present.

Andrea founded the Digital Family Lab, a community resource that provides workshops, small-group coaching, and practical guides for schools and parent groups. She has delivered keynote presentations and led parent education nights at over two hundred schools, community organizations, and corporate campuses across the United States and Canada.

When not writing or speaking, Andrea can be found hiking with her family, playing the piano (badly, by her own admission), reading middle-grade novels to stay connected to her children's world, and — like every parent she writes for — trying to get better at putting her own phone down. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband and three children.
