About this app

Krona Moonrise shows the next 24 hours of the sky as one ring: when the Sun and the Moon rise and set, where the planets stand, which satellites pass — and whether the clouds will let you see them.

THE RING
The Sun's arc inside, the Moon's outside, each as thick as the body stands high. Satellite passes as bars on the outer band. The cloud along your line of sight shades the arcs: full color where the sky is open, dark and faint where cloud closes it. A violet glow inside the arcs shows how deep into the stars the night lets you see. The Moon's phase in the middle, with the next rise or set of the Sun and the Moon.

THREE PAGES
• Sun & moon: the arcs, the phase, the next events, the next visible pass
• Satellite passes: every pass drawn as an arrow across the sky, with its start, end and a countdown
• The compass: where each body stands at any moment — direction and height — turned through the coming three days with a time wheel
Tap the middle of the ring to switch pages. Under each page a chart: the next three days, or the pass from rise to set. The compass button points north; tap it to see the sky where you point the phone.

PLANETS, SHOWERS, AURORA, ECLIPSES
Put the Moon, a planet, a meteor shower in season, the aurora or the asteroid Apophis on the outer band; the aurora is listed when NOAA's Kp forecast brings it into sight where you are. Solar and lunar eclipses: the disc shows the covered Sun or the shadowed Moon, with the next contact time.

SATELLITES
The ISS, China's Tiangong, Hubble and more, computed on the phone from their orbital elements, each pass shaded by the cloud along its path. Visible passes by default: the satellite lit by the Sun over a dark sky.

WEAR OS
Watch app with the same three pages; the crown steps through the passes. Watch face with the ring and the phase disc, installed from the app on Wear OS 6 and newer, with complications for the Sun's and the Moon's next rise or set, the next pass and the phase. Three tiles.

WIDGETS
The ring, the next pass and the compass on the home screen, with buttons to step through the passes.

CLOUD ALONG THE LINE OF SIGHT
A weather model says how much of the sky is covered; Krona Moonrise follows the line from you to the body through each cloud layer and weighs how thick the cloud is. As fine as the best model where you are:
• Central Europe (DWD ICON-D2, 2.1 km) and the contiguous United States (NOAA HRRR, 3 km), for two days
• The rest of Europe (DWD ICON-EU, 6.5 km)
• Everywhere else, the global model (DWD ICON, 13 km)
The further ahead, the broader the shading.

PREMIUM WEATHER
The sky, the cloud, the stars and the aurora are free. The subscription adds the weather under that sky:
• Rain, dew and frost as a line between the Sun's and the Moon's arcs, the rain minute by minute from radar and satellite
• Haze from the Copernicus aerosol forecast in the star glow
• Dew or rain and the air temperature at each satellite pass
• Weather data updated every hour, on the phone and the watch
Monthly or yearly, 7-day free trial, cancel anytime.

ACCURACY
Rise, set, phase and pass times are computed on the device, to about a minute. The cloud and the aurora come from forecasts and can be wrong.

PRIVACY
No account, no ads, no tracking. Fetched: the cloud for a cell of about 5 km, the aurora for a whole degree, the satellites' orbital elements, and with Premium Weather the weather for a point rounded to about 1 km. Stored only as a coarse grid cell, deleted after 90 days. Background location is optional.

ALSO FROM KRONA
Krona Sunlight (weather) and Krona Tidewater (tide and surf): separate apps, the same ring.

Available in: English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese.
