TurboTax is slowly becoming more and more like bad click-bait with all their internal ads and constantly trying to get you to upgrade. I used to do my taxes for free and took 10min max, but with all the extra "let's try to improve your return" they've become their own worst enemy. I now have to pay ($30+) to file, get charged for direct deposit (I dont care if its early I just don't want it to get lost in the mail), and it takes min 1hr now. Annoying, Tedious, Expensive.

Hi Casey, thank you for the feedback. We appreciate you sharing your experience. The TurboTax Free Edition is for simple W-2 returns with the standard deduction. Additional forms and upgrades require paid versions. Direct deposit itself is free unless you choose to pay fees from the refund.

Waste of money- I paid extra for a professional to review my taxes, just to be certain I did it correctly, but all they do is have you share your screen for maybe all of 2 minutes, check in 2 places, then say "yeah, looks good, don't think you missed any deductions". I did not feel like the extra cost was worth that and I certainly didn't feel any more secure that everything was filled out correctly. This will be the last time I ever file taxes with Turbotax- do yourself a favor and avoid.

My wife and I saved more than $3000 in taxes by entering the exact same information into FreeTaxUSA vs. TurboTax. If that wasn't bad enough, the experience of using TurboTax has taken a nosedive over the past 2 years: pages load more slowly, full-page ads appear more often, the interface has become less intuitive, and the service is more expensive. TurboTax speedran ensh*ttification faster than I've ever seen before. I suspect heavy use of AI is to blame. Avoid TurboTax.
